As someone who is very uninformed about Esports, Brenna Webb’s conversation with us was very informational for me. Esports seems to be a whole new entity that is taking flight, and I loved to hear how Brenna saw so much potential in it so early. What I found even more impressive was that her knowledge of Esports was pretty similar to mine: close to none. So essentially, by joining Riot Games, she was creating a role for herself to brand a company that is a part of a business that she barely knew; talk about terrifying. Instead, it never seemed like she was scared of the challenge, and her willingness to look past the negatives and attack an opportunity with as much eagerness as she did amazes me. Obviously, that risk has paid off for her too, as she has found the success that she sought out for. With wins like bringing Lil Nas X to events and creating a skin for their partnership with Tiffany and Co, Brenna is reshaping the Esports community and her company for the better. Another thing that stuck out to me from Brenna’s talk was an idea that was also evident in Wormser’s talk as well: the power of connections. Brenna talked about how she was able to get a lot of her opportunities because of influence from others, and I really like that she is in a position that still acknowledges where she has come from. For me, I have been raised in a way that treats others with the utmost respect and I have made really impactful connections as a result of it. So, hearing similar morals being reiterated in both Brenna and Wormser’s talks reassures me of the interconnectedness of sports, as that is an environment that I want to grow in.
