There are some individuals who you can instantly tell that they are a good person by one conversation; George Scott struck me as one of those people from our Zoom. I really liked his laid back persona, but also appreciated the hints of professionalism and seriousness that he displayed as well. As he spoke about his background and his current position, I was able to see those qualities highlighted greatly in his role at Yinzcam. It seems that he is able to incorporate a creative and convenience mindset into his business ventures that has established not only a successful brand, but a revolutionized fan experience. He acknowledged that fan connection a lot too in our talk, as all of his consumers, including himself, have a connection to sports, it’s just about finding the right route to magnifying that connection. Also, in regards to connections, Scott too stressed the importance of relationships in sports. I really enjoyed when he recalled the happenings of one of his interns that he sent to Kansas City. I could understand the discomfort that his intern was likely feeling, so to hear where Scott’s vantage point was coming from and the importance he saw in pushing him was very reassuring to hear. It showed me that people will have your best interest if you give them a good reason to, which is why relationships are so important. Another theme of his intern story that I appreciated was the idea of patience. Scott explained that his intern could’ve killed him for sending him to Kansas City, but he stuck it out and became greater because of it. Essentially, like Scott had said, just because you want to work for the Chicago Bears doesn’t mean you have to work for the Chicago Bears right away. As someone who is just registering the reality of getting a job and establishing myself after college, this reassurance was important for me to hear. Opportunities will certainly come and go, and I should take advantage of them as they come, but no road is perfect or expected on the way to satisfaction.
