The event that I chose to cover for the Twitter Challenge was a collegiate women’s soccer match between Alabama and Arkansas. The game was being televised on the SEC Network, so I was able to watch the game on my TV. As I watched the game, I primarily used my laptop to tweet about the action. My favorite tweet came in the 84th minute of play when Arkansas committed a penalty in their own box that rewarded Alabama with a PK. This was a crucial mistake so late in the game, so I excitedly typed “ARKANSAS PENALTY IN THE BOX.” I definitely transferred some of my excitement from that moment into the tweet, so the genuineness of it makes it my favorite. My least favorite tweet, however, is probably the last tweet that I made of the game. I quote tweeted the final goal with an ending blurb, but I feel like I could have done better to wrap up the game in a more memorable way. Something that I also disliked about a lot of my tweets, and something that I had to deal with in the moment, is transferring the time from the broadcast into my tweets. The time stamps I used throughout my coverage are not consistent because I overlooked the time style of the broadcast. Especially in the second half, I should’ve used time stamps such as the 75th minute or the 81st instead of 30’ or 36’. Overall, though, I enjoyed the assignment and thought it was a cool way to get an idea of real-time action. I think it would have been extremely difficult to livestream a longer game such as football or baseball, so I did appreciate the format of a soccer setting.
